Stamp duty payment threshold raised

Tuesday 2 September 2008

The BBC has today reported that Homebuyers will not have to pay stamp duty on properties costing £175,000 or less for the next 12 months.

This can only be good news for buyers as it brings more homes within reach and reduces the costs of house purchase.

The concession, which commences on Wednesday 3 September, will last for one year and the Government etimates half of all property transactions will now be exempt from stamp duty - up from one third when the threshold was £125,000.
